Catholic Interpreting Training Institute (CITI)
In many parts of Latin America, Deaf people do not have access to the Catholic Church through interpreters, very few countries offer formal training programs to ensure high-quality interpretation and full participation. In response, DCYIA–CITI was created to provide accessible and structured formation for Catholic interpreters, adaptable to different contexts—from short workshops to full week programs. Rooted in a comprehensive approach, the program is built on five essential pillars: Language, Theology, Interpretation, Deaf Culture, and Spiritual formation, supporting interpreters in developing the skills, knowledge, and vocation needed to faithfully serve both the Church and the Deaf community.
Our Pillars
Language
Fluency in both spoken and sign languages is essential for clear and faithful communication.
Theology
Understanding theological concepts and language allows interpreters to transmit the depth of the faith.
Interpretation
Knowledge of interpretation theories and techniques ensures accuracy in Catholic contexts.
Deaf Culture
A true interpreter builds a respectful and active connection with the Deaf community.
Spiritual formation
Spiritual growth nurtures the vocation of service within the Church.
