Noemi Cangemi
Noemi Cangemi
TEAM
- Noemi is an Italian Sign Language (LIS) interpreter with a vocation rooted in faith and family. Originally from a small town near Rome and raised in a vibrant Catholic household, her journey into the world of signs began unexpectedly during the 2008 World Youth Day in Sydney. It was there, inspired by the work of an interpreter, that a “spark” was ignited, leading her to formalize her studies and fall in love with the language.
- Since becoming a qualified LIS interpreter in 2013, Noemi has dedicated her life to bridging the gap between the Church and the Deaf community. Her career is marked by profound service, including translating papal audiences, religious events at St. Peter’s, and international pilgrimages. A pivotal moment in her training was her collaboration with Elisabetta Gambardella and Sister Veronica, where she mastered liturgical techniques and specialized vocabulary that are often absent from traditional training.
- Beyond her work within Italy, Noemi has participated in translation projects for the Gospel and served during the Jubilee of Mercy alongside international sign language teams. She joined the DCYIA team following a deaf pilgrimage from the Americas to Rome, and since 2020, she has adapted her service to digital platforms. Noemi continues to embrace each new experience as an opportunity to grow and serve God through her professional expertise.
